Rising support for the radical right has become a hallmark of current political landscape. A lot attention been devoted to reasons influencing individual voting decisions, with some progress in understanding within-country variation vote. But these studies usually assume that perceptions coincide objective reality. This article addresses this shortcoming, using quantitative text analysis and spatial econometrics show local narratives – sometimes more than contextual statistics can drive differences populist Taking Spain as an example, I train machine learning algorithm determine prevalence given news topics across national territory based on how many related articles newspapers published Twitter year before last election. then use econometric techniques link results divergences party VOX.
